Vanderhoof Tourism & Cultural Centre (original)

The Vanderhoof Museum & Visitor Centre is located conveniently on Highway 16, with large trailer parking available behind the site. The Vanderhoof Tourism and Cultural Centre features historical exhibits from the Nechako Valley, including some from Saik’uz First Nation and surrounding First Nations. Come in and get some information and maps about Vanderhoof and our surrounding areas, check out some regional art, AND locally-made crafts and gifts. The space is also available to rent for meetings and events dependent on the time of year and availability. Our visitor centre staff will help you plan your itinerary or tour you around the grounds.

Step Back in Time

HISTORIC SITE

The Vanderhoof Community Museum rests on a historic site showcasing beautifully restored buildings from the early 1900s. On site you can find a restaurant, expansive heritage park and look out. Step back in time through thought-provoking displays and guided tours from May-September and then upon request (weather permitting) to October. as you immerse yourself in the storied past of Vanderhoof learning how the community was shaped to what it is today. The District of Vanderhoof operates the historic site in partnership with the Nechako Valley Historical Society.

HERITAGE TRAIL

On site you will find the wooded Heritage Nature Trail, included in the Vanderhoof Community Trails & Tours Guide booklet available at the Visitor Centre. Interpretive signs point out interesting historical and ecological facts along the over 1 km walking trail that circles the museum grounds. The trail passes through the forest and along Stoney Creek, an important traditional area for the local Saik’uz First Nation.

OK CAFÉ

Make your way to the OK Café for some great food! It is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 7pm until September, featuring Filipino Fusion foods by the Gifted Chef, and Sharon’s Famous Pies (made by her daughter Christy).

There is plenty of space for kids to run and play. If you are here for July 1 – Canada Day, come join the festivities. There are games for children, entertainment and great food at the museum every year on Canada Day. A large on-site parking lot easily accommodates chartered buses and RVs.
